Veronica McDonald is a published fiction writer and poet, and an amateur visual artist. She graduated from American University in Washington D.C. with an M.A. Degree in Literature, has published a chapbook of fiction and poetry, and is currently working on a novel while simultaneously entering art shows to meet and connect with other artists.
Veronica’s writing tends to fall into the “dark” category, though her goal is to show either the hopelessness of darkness, or the power of light that shines in dark places. In her work, she likes to play with magical realism, isolated settings, childhood memories, and contrasting the innocent with the monstrous.
In her art, Veronica often paints emotional scenes inspired by the Bible, and also enjoys creating portraits where she can enhance the spectrum of colors found in animals and people. She works primarily with acrylics, but also experiments with mixed media: collage, tissue paper, oil pastels, watercolors, and anything else she can get her hands on.
Veronica became a born-again Christian in July 2016, and because of that event she is even more fascinated by good and evil, love and fear, life and death, and the way God and the Gospel can shine out of secular literature, movies, and everyday life. All of this is most likely reflected in her writing and art.
She currently lives in Southern California with her husband and two children.
